Temporary Chat lets you have conversations that are never saved to your chat history. When enabled, new chats exist only in memory for the current session and disappear as soon as the app is closed or a new chat is started.

How to enable

1

Open the Side Menu

Open the Side Menu and tap Temporary Chat (spy icon).
2

Or use the quick-action button

Alternatively, tap the Temporary Chat quick-action button in the message input bar.
When active, the icon turns purple and a badge appears in the header.

Key behaviors

  • Not saved to storage: Temporary chats are never written to your device’s local storage, so they won’t appear in your Saved Chats list.
  • Session-only: The conversation lives in memory. Closing the app or starting a new chat permanently discards it. There is no recovery.
  • Persisted toggle: The Temporary Chat on/off setting itself is remembered across restarts, but not the temporary chat contents.
  • New chat required: You cannot convert an existing chat into a temporary one. Enabling Temporary Chat mid-conversation will prompt you to start a fresh temporary chat instead.
  • Hidden from history: Temporary chats are excluded from the sidebar chat list, export, and any search.
Temporary Chat only controls LMSA’s in-app history and local app storage. Depending on your provider, prompts and responses may still be logged outside the app: by your Local Server (LM Studio/Ollama) based on its own logging settings, or by OpenRouter/other cloud API providers according to their policies.
