1
Open MCP settings
Open LMSA Settings. Stay on Local Server and tap the MCP button.
2
Add integrations
Add one or more integrations, then tap Done to save them. The MCP builder in LMSA creates the
integrations JSON for you, so you usually do not need to type JSON manually.3
Chat with tools enabled
Once at least one MCP integration is saved, LMSA uses LM Studio’s native MCP chat flow automatically. If the model decides to use a tool, LMSA will show a tool-use summary in the response.
Integration types
You can choose between two types of integrations:Allowed tools
The Allowed Tools field is optional. Leave it empty to allow every tool from that integration, or add specific tool names to limit what the model can call.Important notes
- Your normal LM Studio server connection still needs to work first before MCP integrations can be used
- You do not put MCP server URLs in the Hostname / IP field. Keep that field for the LM Studio server running on your computer
- If a tool-enabled request behaves strangely, double-check the server URL or plugin ID, and make sure the target integration is available in LM Studio
